The brief

After stepping on an IED, Mark instantly lost both his legs, and his arm, becoming a triple amputee in a number of seconds. Following his retirement from the military, Mark has gone on to compete in the Invictus Games, winning four medals in total, and has since participated in numerous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments; representing the charity REORG; a charitable initiative which helps rehabilitate veterans, military and emergency services personnel through functional fitness and jiu-jitsu.

George said "Mark actually encouraged me to take my first Jiu-Jitsu class. After seeing the energy on Mark change when he started speaking about the sport during our first sitting, I knew I had to try it out for myself. Although subtle, I've depicted Mark in a Gi (a heavy cotton jacket worn as a uniform in the sport) in the Portrait, it only seemed right."
